Casa Chapala’s TEQUILA SOCIETY of AUSTIN Presents “The First Annual Austin Tequila Taste-Off”: An Evening of Fun, Food and Music Benefitting the Austin Children’s Shelter.
Where top tequila brands vie to be chosen…“Austin’s Favorite Tequila 2011”
On June 18, 2011, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, guests and members of Casa Chapala’s Tequila Society of Austin will vote for their favorite tequila from among many distilleries represented.
Dozens of tequilas such as Patron, Cabo Wabo and Don Julio, as well as popular local brands like Ambhar and Republic will vie for the title “Austin’s Favorite Tequila.”
Amid music and a sumptuous hors d’oeuvres buffet, featuring Lupe’s famous shrimp and many other Casa Chapala favorites, guests will taste Blancos, Reposados and Añejos, searching for their favorite. And when they’ve found it, they’ll vote by depositing their ancient Mayan coin into the appropriate vessel. At 7:45 pm, the winner will be announced.
Tickets for the event are $20 online and $25 at the door. Tickets include 10 tasting tickets to sample from vendors and an abundant special, off-menu hors d’oeuvres buffet, musics and lots of fun.
Gift Baskets, Dinner Certificates, T-shirts and other great prizes will be raffled off during the event for the benefit of the Austin Children’s Shelter.

Background on The Tequila Society of Austin
The Tequila Society of Austin, whose home is Casa Chapala Mexican Grill and Cantina, is a community of tequila aficionados and lovers-of-agave who gather to enjoy tequila in its many forms. The Austin Tequila Taste-Off is their first public event, for the benefit of the Austin Children’s Shelter. The Society’s mission is to promote the enjoyment of tequila as a sophisticated sipping spirit, as well as a delicious base to traditional cocktails (Margarita, Mexican Martini, etc.).
About Casa Chapala
Since 2006, Lupe and Lucina Barragan, owners of Casa Chapala Mexican Grill and Cantina, have been serving Austin authentic central Mexican cuisine. The recipes are the same their abuelas used to make for them in the small town of Huitzila, outside of Guadalajara - the center of the tequila region of Jalisco. Their family still distills fine tequila in the area. Together with their extended family and staff, they recreate a heartfelt Mexican experience, from the menu to their offering of over 100 tequilas to the friendly staff and warm hospitality. Each guest is welcomed like family. They truly embody their motto: “Mi casa es su casa.”
A signature event at Casa Chapala is the monthly “Tequila Dinner,” pairing 4 delicious, specially prepared courses with different tequilas. Each event seeks to educate participants on all aspects of tequila distilling, history and culture, current trends and appropriate tasting techniques, while promoting responsible consumption – all in a festive format.
